Signpost Logo Created for an Academic Website

8 April, 2009 (23:46) | Blender Art, Gimp Art | 6 comments

It has bee awhile since I last made a post, but here is my latest work.

Last year I created a logo with a signpost concept for a acedemic website called Lancaster Learning Link. Thanks to a friend who did the web design and coding for the site, since he hooked me up with a role as graphics designer.
I worked primarily with Blender and Gimp for both 3D and image post processing. I’m particularly proud of how the chain turned out. I used a “DupliFrame” method within Blender, which allowed me to create only one chain link and multiply and rotate it at even intervals.

I also used “Displacement” maps that allowed me to achieve the rough wood grain texture.

My client was very pleased with the work and I’d have to agree.

Art Contest Judging

14 February, 2008 (01:01) | Contests | 4 comments

As you can see we have been conducting an art contest that anyone can participate in. Thank you contestants for contributing your work. We have decided that instead of the Renegades judging on each contestants art, you the faithful participant of Renegade Graphics will be the judge! Beginning today there will be an online poll where you can vote on your favorite entry’s.

Due to some technical difficulties with the polling system, the art has been split into two categories. One for Photography, and one for Painting/Drawing/3D entry. You may vote on up to two Photography entries and one painting/drawing/3D entry. Judging ends: February 21st.

Vote Here at the Art Judging page

Photo Editing without a price tag? There is a solution!

Photo Editing without a price tag? There is a solution!

If you ever thought “You have to have an Expensive program like Photoshop to do advanced photo editing  and image manipulation like the Pro’s.” Think again! I’m here to say that you can do all(almost all) the same imaging work with a free application!

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It has many features like the infamous “Photoshop”but without the big price tag. If you are big into Photography, Digital imaging, or just have an interest. Gimp is a must have!

Our first Renegade Graphics header is made!

Final Result
sand 8sand 9
sand 10sand 22
sand 23sand 24

This scene was created entirely by Blender and Gimp. The corrugated metal text, and sand textures were my first successful attempts using the Displacement modifier in Blender. I have found it very useful for making realistic terrain.

I am considering making a video presentation on how I used the displacement modifier. If you would like to learn how I did this please comment!

Create 3D Art For Free!

11 January, 2008 (01:35) | Blender Art | 3 comments

Blender is a very addictive program, and is known to be very useful. If you are a person that enjoys art, especially the great 3D stuff, then you need to learn how to use Blender. With Blender you can create 3D movies, photo realistic images, and more! The great thing is, Blender is free! Of course you can always buy autodesk 3ds Max for around $3,396 to $3,650, OUCH! I recommend checking out the blender site, and looking at some of their art work. http://www.blender.org. You can also checkout some of my blender art under the photo gallery. I hope you look in to this, because if you don’t, you are REALLY missing out. Also take some tutorials from Wikibooks. Here is the one I first did http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro, it really helped me. By the time I finished it, I was making some really fun stuff! Well, have fun Blendering!

Sincerely, IT (renegade admin)
